Original Films & Independent Storytelling
Explore documentary & narrative films by Metamora Films, from independent documentaries and scripted shorts to original stories about identity, relationships, community, and the human experience.
Our work spans personal journeys, social issues, criminal justice, forgiveness, and second chances. Across genres and subjects, we approach filmmaking with curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to stories that go beyond the surface.
Our Filmmaking Journey
Much of Metamora Films’ earlier work was created during the 2010s, when criminal justice, stigma, incarceration, and second chances were already central to the stories we chose to tell.
During those earlier years, Metamora Films was based in Utah, where we developed independent projects rooted in real people, local communities, and the questions that emerge when we look beyond first impressions.
Our documentary & narrative films reflect a wider interest in human experience. From forgiveness and housing to identity, relationships, and difficult social questions, the work has always been driven by curiosity about how people live and what shapes their stories.
The subjects may change. The curiosity behind them doesn't.
After several years away from active production, Metamora Films is beginning a new chapter in the Portland–Vancouver region. We're developing documentary and scripted narrative projects that leave room for different genres, unexpected perspectives, and stories both real and imagined.
The films in this archive reflect where we've been as storytellers. They also help shape what comes next.
Explore early documentary and narrative films from Metamora Films, along with an original audio project. Created primarily during our Utah years, these works explore personal experiences, identity, forgiveness, criminal justice, and the stories behind complex issues.
These early films and projects helped shape our approach to human-centered storytelling and continue to inform the original documentaries and narrative work we develop today.
Production, interviews, screenings, and conversations surrounding the stories that shaped Metamora Films.
For two consecutive years, Metamora Films traveled to Park City, Utah, to cover the Sundance Film Festival through interviews and conversations with people behind the films.
Rather than focusing only on the red carpet, the coverage explored the ideas within the films — including social issues, identity, personal transformation, relationships, and what filmmakers hoped audiences would take away from their stories.

The 2016 trip brought Metamora Films into conversations surrounding films with social, personal, and cultural themes. Interviews looked beyond promotion to ask what the stories meant and why they mattered.

Read About the 2017 Coverage ↗The Sundance years were another expression of the same curiosity behind Metamora Films’ documentary work: looking beyond the surface of a story to understand the people, experiences, and ideas underneath it.
Documentary & Narrative Films remain at the heart of Metamora Films as we develop new productions and creative collaborations across Portland, Vancouver, Washington, and Seattle. Our work continues to explore identity, relationships, community, and the lives behind first impressions.
Versions of Me is a documentary project exploring the sides of people's lives that others rarely see. Through intimate, unscripted storytelling, the project looks at identity, assumptions, and the experiences that shape how we see ourselves and one another.
Developed in the Portland and Southwest Washington region, the project continues Metamora Films' interest in personal stories told with curiosity rather than judgment.
